Founded in 2011, E Muto Fu began as an Italian website entirely devoted to silent cinema. Over time, it expanded with the help of several collaborators: Esse, Erasmodem, Alessia Carcaterra, Enrico Stamberghi, and Carolina Caterina Minguzzi, who has also been curating the project’s social media presence since 2022.
The main goal of the site is to share this passion in the hope of connecting with others who love these films. When writing articles, I try each time to highlight the aspects that struck me most hoping to spark a discussion, or perhaps encourage someone to watch the film themselves. Needless to say, unlike many other sites, every single movie reviewed here has actually been watched. So if you come across differences compared to other synopses online, that is probably the reason.
From the outset, I envisioned creating an English version of the site, a way to give silent cinema greater visibility and to connect with fellow enthusiasts around the world. In 2025, that vision finally came to life with the launch of Silent Film Era. The site begins by offering selected translations of the best articles from E Muto Fu, with the long-term goal of welcoming original contributions written directly in English. So, if you are passionate about silent cinema and would like to write for the blog you are more than welcome.
Thank you for stopping by, and please feel free to share your impressions.
A warm greeting, and enjoy your journey into silent cinema,
Yann Esvan
